Global Frontier Missions strongly believes that our Short Term Mission Trips are a vital part of mobilising more workers to reach the unreached peoples of the world both locally and around the world. Short Term Missions has gotten a little bit of bad press in recent years, and rightly so because a lot of trips out there are not being run well at all. Many churches and organisations are using methods that don’t fit the local context, using finances in ways that hurt the local people, are done with a Saviour or Messiah-complex rather than a learner posture, etc. We are in a unique position to design great mission trips because we are disciple makers and church planters at heart. We are inviting short-term mission groups to come alongside of us as we serve alongside local, ethnic leaders making us extremely sensitive to the local people and context in which we are serving. We highly recommend that all of the leaders and participants that want to serve with us read the book When Helping Hurts before coming to join us.
Our preference is to see groups and churches that are within about two hours of our current locations to join us for our short-term mission trips. We are hoping that your time with us will lead to longer term involvement with the unreached people groups we are ministering to. When you contact us about a short term mission trip, please know that we will always encourage you to join up with the base closest to you. We feel that you will benefit the most from getting a view of your local missions needs. And when you are engaged with your local location, you will find that there are opportunities to serve throughout the year! Your team could mobilise your entire church to adopt an apartment complex, volunteer with ESL classes, follow up with families, etc. Another great benefit of “staying local” is that you become a vital part of our full time staffs support team. Your short term trip is designed to assist our full time staff members in their long term ministry. Your presence has both short term and long term impact!
If you are not within two hours of one of our locations, we are still open to hosting your group, but we give preference to those that we think can continue ministering in our context. We have been able to host groups equipping them with tools that have helped them go back to their community and work with the unreached people groups that are living close to them. Know that we place a high value on equipping your team and there is an expectation that you will take the training that you get from us with the hope that you will continue putting those thing into practice as you go home. Your team may contain people who will want to come back to Global Frontier Missions and join in one of our longer term internships or our mission training school. Or perhaps there are people on your team who will realise that God has called them to go and work with the unreached somewhere else? Global Frontier Missions does not care as long as there are more people going to serve the least of these!
We also believe that your finances are valuable and should be spent wisely. We have always worked to make Global Frontier Missions short term mission trips one of the best values out there. We call these local trips Backyard Missions, and since we believe strongly in sending more finances to unreached people groups around the world, $15 of the $99/person/day fee goes to assist church planting efforts in an unreached people group overseas.
When you join Global Frontier Missions for one of our Short Term Missions Trips, you will be advancing the Kingdom of God both at our local location and around the world. Some people call it major “glocal” impact! Two years ago, we were able to use the $15/person/day money that we made from short term mission trips to fund the translation of the entire Bible for an unreached people group in Northern India. Last year, we were able to fund two church planting teams of ex-Al Qaeda fighters that had come to Christ in a radical way and got trained and equipped to take the Gospel into some of the hardest places in the Middle East. We’re determined to make sure that not only do our short-term mission trip participants have a great experience but that the ministry that they do locally helps the long-term work in that location and also that there is some part of the world that is being blessed from the finances from that trip as well.
From time to time we will also organise trips to locations in the 10/40 window. These trips are “vision” trips, and are meant for those seriously considering long term work in that part of the world. All applicants to these trips will be considered, but in our screening process we will consider your commitment to potentially joining us as staff.
Finally, we believe that our staff, leaders and participants are all in need of Jesus Christ just as much as the peoples we are working with. So each of our trips contain teaching, reaching out and worship times throughout the week. If you come ready, your heart will be drawn closer to God while you plant and water the seeds of the Gospel in others!
We are proud members of the Standards Of Excellence in Short Term Mission which guarantees that our short term missions programs have been evaluated by other missions organisations and have met the seven standards of excellence in short term mission which are: God-centredness, empowering partnerships, mutual design, comprehensive administration, qualified leadership, appropriate training, and thorough follow-up.
